Bury

the Cross in a Pocket

These crosses are made
very simply using cross stitch on plastic canvas
with leftover wool.
Each contains a short prayer.
Beyond that there is no limit to your imagination!

Download instructions here.

You may wish to use these with your own circle of family and friends.
However, there is a great need so if you are willing to make some do please let us have them.
We are happy to receive them in the branch or leave at the
Mothers' Union Office in St John's House, 155-163 The Rock, Bury, BL9 0ND

Just a few of the many ways these crosses are used

  • given to bride and groom at a wedding
  • included in baptism packs
  • handed out by hospital chaplains and available in hospital chapels
  • given to members of the armed forces, often as they are being deployed
  • left for those in prison to pick up and use
  • available for students in our universities

Here at Christ Church we recently gave crosses in the troop colours
to two members of the 9th Bury Scout Group
who were setting off to Germany on the Explorer Challenge

A recent initiative requested by some of our hospitals
is for knitted 'holding crosses' which are much appreciated
by patients. Holding crosses are shaped to fit comfortably
in the palm of the hand.
