Mothers' Union - who we are

We have a branch of about 50 members - 1/5th of whom are men, some members are from St John with St Mark, some are clergy. Everyone is welcome so please check out our meetings.  We won't pressurise you into joining until you are ready so walking into the church hall at 7.30 pm on a first or third Wednesday is not a lifelong commitment - unless you wish it to be!

We support our sisters and brothers around the world through a variery of initiatives in these islands and in this diocese of Manchester. Our primary focus is on family life which explains why some of our acivities in the parish include:

  • the provision of teddies for babies christened in our church
  • cards to couples being married here and to all who are christened or baptised
  • a welcome card, with seeds or teabag to welcome to a new home
  • involvement in setting up and running Café Church
  • the provision of activity bags and boxes for children in church

We are delighted to have among our number the Diocesan President, Catherine Hilton and Barbara Taylor, President for the Northern Province of the Church of England. Barbara and Cath are seen here with our branch leader, Bob Taylor and they are all happy to tell you more about Mothers' Union, its work and its witness.
