I and my husband are local organisers of a Contact the Elderly group.  The aim of the organisation is to alleviate loneliness and social isolation amongst older people.
We run two groups in Bury and once a month volunteer drivers collect an older person from their home and take them to the home of a host family for afternoon tea.  There is no cost whatsoever to the older person.  There are 7 older guests in each group and its an absolute life-line to the old folk who look forward eagerly to meeting up and chatting to other people in similar situation to themselves.
The criteria for coming along to a Contact tea-party is that the older person (guest) must be over 75, live alone and have little or no support from relatives.
Several of our guests have recently moved into residential care so we are now looking for more older folk to join our group.
If you do know of anyone who would benefit from the tea-party group please do pass on the information or if they would like more information we can be contacted through the website.
